A brief history of the residents of Bouça

The Bouça Batalha commissioned filmmaker Melanie Pereira to develop a film project about the association that originated in the neighborhood.

The Bouça Neighborhood Residents' Association is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, Batalha commissioned filmmaker Melanie Pereira to develop a film project about the association that originated in the neighborhood.

The film focuses on the women who led the Bouça civic movement, recalling the association's early years, the expropriation of the Alerta building, the construction of the neighborhood designed by Siza Vieira, and the creation and management of the kindergarten. Intertwining past and present, the work reflects on the association's role in the transformation of the neighborhood and its importance in the city's political and social context, from the 1970s to the present day. A working version will be presented at Batalha, inviting the community to participate in the project's creative process.
